First graders took a virtual field trip to China this week. They visited five different places in China: Hong Kong, Beijing, The Terracotta Army, The Yangtze River, and The Forbidden City. Using Nearpod, they were able to have a 360 degree view of each of these places. This trip got them excited about researching about each of the places and helped them to brainstorm research questions about each destination. Each group will use print and online resources to answer questions and gather facts to create an Adobe Voice video about their place. Can't wait to see how these turn out!
Dryden students are super excited for a visit from poet Bill Buczinsky this Thursday. We have been listening to his poetry and discovering the impact that rhythm and music has on how we enjoy poetry. We can't wait to see how he inspires our Dryden students to use their creativity to find their voice through poetry!
Kindergarteners got into the groove learning about rhythm in poetry. After reading poems and putting rhythm to them, we got to listen to some of poet Bill Buczinsky's original poems read by him. Boy, did we feel the rhythm in his poetry! Looking forward to the PTA assembly with this high energy author on Thursday, March 31. Thanks PTA!
After learning all about the components of website evaluation (authority, currency, content, design), the fifth graders had a chance to test out their new skills this week. They were asked to research "Dog Island." Using the first source, a map, they discovered that Dog Island is a small island off the coast of Florida. Next, they used the website thedogisland.com and read that Dog Island is a place where you can send your dog to live free the rest of its life. As they dug deeper into the text, they read that 2,500 dogs run free there and live off of wild animals and fish. As they continued to explore this site, many of them realized that we needed to check this website's facts against another source. We found an official tourism site for this area of Florida, only to discover that Dog Island is a privately owned vacation destination...for PEOPLE! Website evaluation is a valuable skill for these kids to master!
