Our Non-Fiction November reading incentive is well underway. We challenged all grades to read as many non-fiction books as they can in November. After they read a book, they write down the book title, call number, and an interesting fact that they found in the book. We are putting these fact sheets up according to grade in the hall outside the LMC. Second and fourth grade are in the lead right now, but all grades have been doing a super job participating. Keep reading those good non-fiction books dolphins!
Third, fourth, and fifth graders have been learning about and reviewing the Notice & Note Signposts in reading during their LMC times. They practiced recognizing the signposts in fiction texts and stopping to think about important questions when those signposts appear. Learning to think about "Contrasts and Contradictions," "Aha Moments," "Tough Questions,""Words of the Wiser," "Again and Again," and "Memory Moments" helps the intermediate students strengthen their reading comprehension.
