Thank you to our Dryden PTA for hosting author and illustrator Ethan Long. The students had a great time learning about how Ethan develops his characters and story lines. Watching how he transforms the energy in his sketches into detailed illustrations was a meaningful process for students to see. We even got a sneak peek of Ethan's newest book!
This week was the last week for 1st and multiage students in their author study of Amy Krouse Rosenthal as part of The Global Read Aloud 2015. The fourth graders practiced reading the book, created discussion questions, and then paired up with the younger classes to read The OK Book. The discussions were thoughtful and deep. The fourth graders loved taking on a leadership role in teaching the younger students. The 1st and multiage students benefitted from the small group setting and learning from older kids at Dryden. What a great way to end our author study!
The second graders have started a research experience in the LMC this week. After exploring some interesting facts about the presidency through an interactive Nearpod lesson, the students used Pebble Go on the iPads to research facts about a specific president. Each day of research focuses on different information about that president. Look for our "Hall of Presidents" in front of the second grade classrooms coming soon!
Second grade and multiage students had a special visit from the Arlington Heights Memorial Library's Bookmobile this week. The students have been learning about communities, community helpers, and the services the community provides to its residents. The Bookmobile is one of the many services Arlington Heights residents can use.
