Our kick-off assembly for A Nest For Celeste was a big success. We learned about the One Book, One School idea, watched the book trailed for A Nest For Celeste, and even had a visit from Celeste, the mouse!

Our students are enjoying "tasting" all of the new books that have been added to our collection over the summer. Each student brought home a menu listing books that she/he would like to check out this year. This is a fun way for students to get excited about reading our new books and set reading goals for themselves.
After researching Chicago landmarks and creating posters to showcase their knowledge, third graders got to play Chicago-opoly this week. They loved playing on the giant game board to learn from one another about other Chicago landmarks. (Well, except the part when they had to GO TO JAIL!)
We had a wonderful afternoon in the Dryden LMC on Saturday with the raffle winners of our doll party!
Award winning author and illustrator Peter Brown is visiting Dryden on Tuesday, April 11th to talk to students about his books and the processes of writing and illustrating! Visit his website to learn more about him and his books. He will also be visiting Arlington Heights Memorial Library on Wednesday, April 12 from 7:00-8:30.
Take a look at some of the themes and messages we found in Peter Brown's books! It was fun to contribute to a collaborative word cloud and watch the popular themes grow bigger.
We've been having so much fun getting ready for our visit by Peter Brown. After reading Mr. Tiger Goes Wild, we had a blast with an interactive Nearpod lesson using the iPads. We posted our thought about the book to share with the class, drew pictures of Mr. Tiger going wild, answered question about the book, and even "went wild" on a virtual field trip to the jungle!
